Substitute "economic" for "spiritual" and it describes the experiences of the majority in modern societies.

such as AI resume filtering,
HR hoops,
and interview questions that might as well be asking about how to cast spells.
Employers are arbitrary and capricious entities of enormous power over individuals and with the ability to influence the world in ways the individual has no hope of matching.
